Just got the phone and looking for a case that will keep me from destroying it while I am working on stuff and hunting etc. Looking at Griffin Survivor Catalyst. Mostly good reviews on Amazon but some not so good. Anyone had any experience with iPhone 5 cases?

I've been using a "Lifeproof" case for over a year now on my 4S. It's waterproof and shock resistant plus, the belt clip actually secures the phone to my gunbelt, etc. I am hard on a phone and carry it constantly not only while working but also out in the elements while riding my atv, motorcycle and snow machine. The case and belt clip are pricey but thanks to this item I have not destroyed my phone as has been the norm in the past.

If you want to turn your phone into a brick that you cant talk on get the armour series case from otter box. Works great for everything except talking. You can use it to chock your car tires when changing a flat even without damaging the phone.

i also use the lifeproof case. its super expensive and they make you buy the belt clip separately at its own exorbitant price, which i think sucks, but as far as protection goes its hard to beat lifeproof. otterbox makes great cases as well that are equal or better in protection, but as bgh said they are incredibly bulky. they are much cheaper and they also protect very well, but they drastically increase the size of the phone. there are several other makers of good cases and dozens of manufacturers of crappy knock offs.

i would recommend the lifeproof over everything else, but be prepared to pay for it. im actually waiting to upgrade my iphone until lifeproof comes out with the new iphone cases.

Thanks for the input. Will check it out on Amazon tonight. Good ones are not cheap. The phone only cost me $50 with a contract renewal and I hate to spend as much or more for a case but I hate to go through the problems associated with trashing a phone.

...my only other suggestion, should you not care for the Lifeproof belt clip ( I only use mine off-duty), is to look at the 5.11 phone holder. It is a ballistic nylon belt case with elastic sides and an adjustable nylon strap to secure the phone. I've worn one on my gunbelt for several years. My phone is in and out of it constantly, it never shows any wear, has held my phone securely during numerous "physical encounters" and only costs $14.99!

I've got the otterbox. Not sure what the model is called, but it is a heck of a case. Have used the phone in heavy downpour, and still works fine. Dropped, stepped on, etc. Has done very well for me.

the good cases(otterbox, ballistic, lifeproof) will cost you more than 50 bucks. thats a fact. you cant look at what you spent for this phone. you have to look at what the replacement cost will be. you got the phone at a deal because you renewed to contract. if you buy a cheap case and destroy the phone next month, you'll be paying retail for the next one and that will be hundreds of dollars. a very brief check of ebay shows iphone 5's going for 250-500 depending on the details.

spending 75 or so on a top of the line case is just being proactive.

You are absolutely correct. Bought a Lifeproof on Amazon last night for $40 shipped. I have a ballistic nylon case that I used with my Blackberry that has a strap with Velcro that has served me well and the iPhone with a case will work in it. Get them at local gun show for $8 and have not had a problem with them for the many years I have had the Blackberry. Good advice here as usual.
