How are people highlighting the serial numbers and other engraved info on firearms in white ?

How the guns are physically marked will have a great baring on how effective the paint stick markers are.
In the past when I did a lot of gun photography. I ran in to certain guns where the markings were etched, rather than stamped into the metal surface. Trying to get paint stick to highlight these markings was a waste of time. The only thing that really worked on these etched markings was very diffused lighting at right angles to the etched surface(s).

Drug store rubbing alcohol. Applied with a old toothbrush and tooth picks, is what I used in the past. Never had a bit of problem, removing the white paint.
