Looks a little like the standard Browning/Rem 11 type but it is lined with metal. Haven't got anything it fits, but is an interesting curio (of which I have a house full!!) Any ideas?

Are you sure it's not Remington 740/742 rifle, they are lined with steel.

You may be right! I was so fixated on "shotgun" that I didn't keep an open mind (sorta like some politicians I have heard about). Thanks!!!

I once had a Montgomery Ward's Shotgun made by (Hawthorne?) in France that had a metal lined forearm. I'm not sure if that was an aftermarket addition or something done at the factory? It seemed to me that the wood was on the soft side and perhaps that was a safe guard againts it getting chewed up?
