I bought an Armalite AR-10A2 (.308 with the carry handle) last year. I thought about the Eagle, same company, because of the price difference. I called the company and asked them what the difference was. They told me the Eagle, a good gun, was not made to the same tight tolerances as the Armalite and so wouldn't shoot as accurately. It depends on what you are after. I asked a dealer at a gun show about the difference. He was kind of a rude unfriendly sort who told me that the Eagles sprayed bullets like a shot gun and were no good. Another dealer told me this guy was exaggerating quite a bit. Opinions are like faces, everyone has one so take mine with a grain of salt.I really really really wanted a .308 auto. I settled for a Ruger mini-14, a Ruger mini-30, and then a Norinco AK-47. Nothing wrong with the guns on that list...except, they weren't what I really wanted. When it came time to decide between the Eagle and the more costly Armalite, I settled on the latter so I wouldn't have to go through the "I should have bought what I really wanted" syndrome. It all depends on what you want it for. Who knows, I might still buy an Eagle for plinking and other fun activities...

General Motors has long garage with two exits: out one and it is a Chevy, out the other and it is a GMC. The same applies here. I find it 'suspect' that the parent company(Armalite) would allow out an inferior product which would "spray bullet's" with tolerance's which/might cause an injury...LIABILITY AND BIG BUCKS....JUST THE SAME CALL ARMALITE: 1-800-336-0184. Beside's would you spend hundreds of dollars on junk...my wife could answer that...but you get my drift...best of luck in a search for your answer..mike

It is my understanding that the Eagle versions are not as well finished cosmetically, and do not have all the extras found on the ArmaLite rifles. For instance, the Eagles do not have chrome bores and come with no sights or carrying handle. Save your money a while longer and get the better rifle.

Runner,If you decide on the AR-10, I have a co-worker that is going to sell his (LNIB). It's a flat top with removable handle, scope mount, NM trigger, half a dozen mags (maybe some other stuff - don't remember). I THINK he wants $1400 for all. I don't know how that compares to new...I do model 12s. Contact me at winchester@chartertn.net and I'll put you in touch. Dave

For Michael Minarik, I would be suspect too if a firearm sprayed bullets and this was a dangerous liability. If you read what I posted, it was a dealer, not the company, and not me who said this. I have never fired and Eagle so I couldn't comment. Are you aware of any American made firearm that sprays bullets to such an extent that it is a liability. I don't mean to sound testy but that was a rather broad jump to a conclusion. Again, I contacted Armalite and they told me the Eagle was not finished as well as or built to the same tolerances as their standard bearer, the AR series. Like I stated in my post, it depends on what you want it for. If you are looking for a super rifle that shoots great out of the box, want one of the most accurate rifles you can find in that price range, and maybe will do some form of competition shooting, you should consider the Armalite. If all of the above is not a real factor, consider the Eagle. As I said, the negative comparison was made by a dealer at a gun show with a lousy disposition. I would continue to search for people who have owned one or both. They would be your best source of information.

FOR NOTPARS:i've re-read what i rote and i'm in ka-hoots with your reasoning...i to questioned what u were told! i'd b kinda interested in knowing the exact difference between the Eagle and Armalite...i think we'd be shocked...that they ain't that much different. As for and a firearm which "sprays' bullets -in jest- machineguns can do just that but ya mite wanna read what many have written on some of these .22 auto's excluding the brand name ones...ya might find some remarks rather funny! In regards to your statement "If you are looking for a super rifle that shoots great out of the box, want one of the most accurate rifles"...I've heard that Rem quit making the 788 (their low $ rifle) because in many case's they were outshooting their 700's( their high $ rifle...I don't know the validity of such comments but.....regards and respect alway's ...mike[This message has been edited by michael minarik (edited 04-04-2002).][This message has been edited by michael minarik (edited 04-04-2002).][This message has been edited by michael minarik (edited 04-04-2002).]

NOTPARS got some info for ya from a heavy hitter at Armalite::::::::I called Armalite and talked with Mark in sales and according to Mark at Armalite.." the basic differences between Eagle and the AR are cosmetic, the warranty, the option's available for a rifle" a-n-d " the same parts, the same people and the same assembly line produce both the Eagle and the AR"...[This message has been edited by michael minarik (edited 04-04-2002).]
