Question for the Colt guys - was the later model Agent with the shrouded barrel ever offered with the factory hammer shroud? The gun is NIB,label on the box says model D4427 2" Blue(it's the gloss blue). I can't find it listed in my books with the hammer shroud and wondered what it was worth in 100% condition and also if it might be a little rare. Thanks

I had one of these pistols with a 'Colt' hammer shroud. It had a Colt emblem on it. Sold it to a police friend of mine who still carries it for backup. I think it was made in the 70's, though I could be wrong.....

Hammer shrouds were a regular production option on all Agents. (I am not sure about the reintroduced matte-finished model from the 1980s.) The Model Number D4427 indicates a shrouded Agent. The Model Number D4425 designates an Agent without the shroud. Does the box make any reference to the shroud? My early first-year shrouded Agent has a "SHROUD" label stuck on the end label. I do not know how long that practice continued. (I assume you have the foam liner wood grain box with a foil label, correct?) Later price lists do not list shrouded revolvers, but I think the shrouds continued to be available as an accessory, although I do not find shrouds on the later price lists. The shroud was a popular accessory to add to Colt "D" frames for concealed carry. Do you want to sell your revolver? If so, please e-mail me at judgecolt45@hotmail.com.

I have a 1979 dated Colt Instruction Manual -covers "D" models and under Pistol Types lists ~ Agent 38 Special (with or without hammer shroud) ~ No indication they were used on the Cobra in the manual. Does say the Agent,Cobra, and Viper could be used with +P ammo on a limited basis. Do you have any idea what the shrouds are selling for by themselves? Dave
