I was reading a post about hog hunting with a pistol and it reminded me, I saw a Blackhawk in 30 carbine yesterday. How does it stack up for hunting compared to a 357, or 44? I'm sure the 44 is more powerful, is a 30 carbine much of a hunting round, or just a noisy plinker? Thanks.

In a rifle, the 30 will develop enough velocity to approach the affect of a 357 out to 100yd. In a pistol it probably would not. The bullet is usually 110gr and doesn't really have the necessary knock-down power. There was also a penetration short-coming noticed during the Korean War. The extra clothing and heavy coats worn by Chinese troops often caused the round to be ineffective.
