Okay I'm breaking out my trusty brush and rough terrain deer rifle this year. Winchester model 100 .308. Most of my shots will be 100-150 yards and none over 200. Up until last year iron sights were all I ever needed. Now a scope looks pretty good. I don't want a variable and don't need more than say 4x or 6x at the most. What do you think? I'm leaning toward leupold, nikon or maybe weaver. As always thanks for your replies.

i have the exact rifle you speak of and for the money have had excellent service from bushnell sportveiw 3x9x32. Been a great combo even through backseat of the truck abuse. Good luck

For a rimfire that is a decent scope. My preference runs to Burris, but they are a bit more spendy, and maybe more than you want to put on a .22.

Love the rifle. It has slain many groundhogs always shoots well. I had to replace the factory clip with a Remington replacement have had that for 5-6 years and no problems yet. Good luck.

....my rule of thumb is that the scope should be equal in quality to that of the gun it's being installed on....ie: $200 rifle deserves a $200 or less scope$500 rifle gets a $500 or less scope$1000 rifle gets a scope worthy of the rifle....Swarovski, Ziess, Kahles, etcof course these are just my guidelines...never understood why someone would put blackwall bias ply tires on a Rolls Royce.....or whiteletter radials on a lawnmower....

I bought a BEC 3x9x42 and put on a Savage 22 mag.Bought it because it was cheap and it has turned out to be the best scope I have ever used in it's price range. It'clear has a quick focus and is made like an expensive european scope.I got it from Sportsmans Guide.

Dale Earnhardt got the first 597Mag, Rick Mast got the 2nd one and I got the 3rd one. A Bushnell 3x9 has been plent suffficent on this rifle! It had a problem with the original magazine but that was cured with the second one. Just a joke about the order of who got the rifles. That was what my dealer said. I ordered the Magnum when they first anounced the 597 and told him I'd take the first one he got if they ever made it in Magnum. Sure enough I walked in one day and he said, "Your rifle's here." I said,"What rifle?" Then I was a proud owner of a 597. Wish my 17HRM would get here!!!! GHD
