I have 2 redfield scopes that have 200-600 yrd rangefinders in them and a set of bracket crosshairs in the top of the view area, my question is what is the distance that they represent to determine the yardage and when you turn the power setting to fit the target inside those crosshairs does it automatically raise the main crosshair to compensate for bullet drop at the yardage shown in the lower right corner. Example top hairs equal 20in and target gets magnified to 10power showing 400yrds to fit the target in the top crosshairs, can you just point and shoot with the main crosshair or do you have to know how much hold over is needed.

Over 20 years ago I slipped in a fresh snow storm while deer hunting in upstate New York, tried to protect my pre64 Mod70 fwt and broke my 1-4x Redfield Scope in half where it is threaded at rear eyepiece, when it hit a rock.I sent it to Denver and those wonderful people sent me back a brand new in the box 1 3/4-5x widefield(some call TV view)in 2days.I continued on with hunting season and got my buck that year. Yesterday an elderly gentleman on E-Bay sold the exact same scope for over $162. In 1989 I believe he paid $186 for it.What a testament for this scope and Redfield. I was hopeing I could afford a spare. In my own personal opinion this scope was/is the best one ever made for deerhunting in the Eastern United States, possibly for dangerous game also.I miss this great USA Co. What say ye?

I'm NOT a big fan of Redfield scopes! The ones I've deal with always "feel" like they were dipped in sand before assembly. That and when your trying to adjust there scope, it doesn't seem very responsive, so you have to "walk" the scope to zero. I'll take a Leupold any day! My 2 cents, Good Luck! ...Mark

Thanks guys. If the Redfields are Jappers, I shall buy a Burris or a Leupold.

Hey Bill, I own 6 leuoples scopes and I do a lot of shooting with Mag Rifles and have found that they will hold togeather for about 200 rounds, and then I send them in for repairs and they come back with in a week and a half. no questions asked. In the past year I have had 4 go bad. I am on a fixed income and refuse to pay over a $1000.00 for a scope, I am now trying out B&L scopes, have not tryed them enough to see if they are any better. GOOD LUCK

Chuck give the Burris a try. Schmidt and Bender are a little rich for my budget too, but the Burris scopes are really good for their price.

I have 4 burris,(3 signatures, 1 compact), & 3 leupold var-x III. the leupold are more compact,& lighter, but the burris's are a lot clearer/brighter. The problem seems to be that people don't focus scopes for THERE EYES when they install them. You should go to a store & look thru them both-buy the one that makes you happy.

Hey He Dog I got a burris had to send it back for repairs, went bad on a 338 Mag, they repaired it free of charge, took 3 weeks to get it back, have not put it on any thing yet, so don't know if it is fixed or not.
