recoil buffers

I'm trying to find out if anyone uses a recoil buffer in their pistols and rifles.Do they help?I've been told both yes and no. Anyone have some input?Scott

    I have used them in a Custom Shop Colt and a full-auto MAC-10 .45. They seem to get battered after awhile, but it takes long enough (in my experience) before replacement that I doubt the gun is being damaged without one.
