Hey all....

I'm thinking of selling my AK....I would really like to get my money's worth back so i can put the money toward a nice .357/.38 revolver.....it is a

- Romanian SAR-1,
- 7.62x39mm,
- (6) 30 round mags (1 used, 5 new), (the good mags)
- (1) 10 round mag,
- Sling,
- Cleaning Kit,
- Recoil buffer,
- Exactly 1000 rounds fired,
- EXCELLENT shape....98-99% condition,
- Ajustable Windage rear sight (not installed),
- furniture refinished by yours truely to get rid of that crappy varnish job.

I paid $340 for it.....now here is where it gets interesting....I live in Fargo ND....Far from the south where you can get an assult rifle at ever sporting goods store.....There is only one place in the area (a pawn shop) where you can get an AK and i dont think many people even realize you can get one there......I want to sell it in the paper cuz i am assuming that i would be able to get more for it there.......what do you all think for an asking price???? I was thinking $400 or best offer....just to see if there is any interest. Opinions????

Thanks...

It's been my observation that in Kansas, firearms advertized in the newspaper are often priced quite abit above what would normally seem reasonable. Actually, I think private sales at gunshows may bring a bit more than a sale from a dealer. I think much of this is because there are people who will pay a premium to buy a firearm through a "private sale" where no paperwork is involved. It's not that the buyer wouldn't qualify for the background check. It's that the buyer doesn't believe it's anyone's business how many or what kind of guns he/she is buying (expecially the government). The fear that someday "they" will be beating at your door to confiscate guns causes certain people to pay a bit more for guns that can't be tracked to them. And of course, private sales (where legal) are an avenue for this type of buyer.

Even though they are selling for a bit under $300.00 (dealer's cost) I doubt you would have any trouble getting $400.00 for it. You do have the spare mags and such to go with it. But I think you should allow yourself some breathing room, tacking $50.00 to $100.00 on top for bargaining wouldn't be out of line. Remember, it's easier to come down in price than go up.

But I think you'd be better off keeping it and just buying the .357 to add to your collection.

To err is human, to moo is bovine.
