Mr Kimberkid ...HEY I agree with you totally on your last post! But as I have stated I've have seen the way the REAL world works (I sure you have too.) At this time in my life, I'm not sure I'd want to wager my income, home, family, & etc. ON weather the ATF is correct or incorrect on this matter. If you would jump up and take a stand ...I bow to you as the "better man"! I'm being VERY real here. AS a man your ARE what you DO, NOT what you SAY! Good Luck to you SIR. ...And I mean that with ALL due sincerity! ...Mark(11echo)

I just wanted to say I hope you didn't take offense at anything I said. I don't think I got into any name calling but may have gotten a bit passionate about my statements. I do think it's unfortunate that these discussions so often drift into verbal abuse as soon as they do, and want you to know I wasn't condoning any abrasive language, but was supporting a position.
I have seen some of our most "prestigious" members (prestegious = many stars) wade into conversations with expert opinions they really know little or nothing about. I'm not directing this at you, understand, but at some members in general. One of the problems with the "Ask The Experts" forum is when someone asks a question, someone else with lot's of stars can come along and answer it and leave the impression he really is an expert. That is certainly far from true in too many cases. Myself, I think there should be some kind of test they give to qualify experts in different subjects on this board. I guess one of the problem is, there are so many areas of specialization that many different people can be experts within their area of expertise.
I just wish some of the more prolific posters would stear out of areas they know little about. Let someone who really knows answer the question. If an "expert" poster does happen to give misinformation and finds himself (or herself) corrected, just learn from it, and be better prepared the next time.
I do think some of these guys do get a bit abrasive because of the open nature of this forum. You might remember some of these guys may be pulling their hair out trying to fight off missinformation, even that distributed by the four and five star generals. I wasn't supporting abrasiveness. I wasn't trying to be crude, but rather support a position.
And Kimberkid is very correct in (most) everything he's said. Particularly, the thought that if you don't exercise your rights, you might well loose them. There are plenty of cases where government agents distributed missinformation. To the ordinary person, building your own firearms sounds pretty darn illegal, and there are probably plenty of ATF agents who would just as soon keep the public thinking like that. No doubt if there were a few things "they" were looking into and the issue of homemade firearms came up, "they" would probably raise an eyebrow. But unless your running close (or over) the line on some other activity, I doubt "they" would ever notice. And if "they" did, I suspect it would be fun watching them trying to figure out what exactly law it was that was broken.
To err is human, to moo is bovine.
With the wide spread avaiability of US made parts and receivers (and recently 80% receivers) there is no reason to not build/assemble your own firearms if you can do so legally and you enjoy that type of thing ... the case in point asked by lorus and the AR-15; A person can buy a finished postban receiver and basic 16" or 20" postban kit for around $550 and with a few common tools and less than an hour have a finished weapon (due to the modular design and assuming the barreled upper is already assembled). It will be as safe as buying compleated AR (and $200 cheaper), usually just as accurate ... and what better way to get familuar with your weapon! As to the 80% receivers the AR is the easiest but still requires the outlay of funds for precision tools, unless you already have them or are going into manufacturing, its a loosing endever. Same with the HK's, they require welding and fitting, finishing yada yada yada ... and they are so cheap that you can't build one for less than you can buy a finished unit, to build one that complies with 922R your looking at $150 for the receiver another $150-$300 for the parts kit (depending on quality) another $100 for US compliant parts ... then it needs finish. Right now the Cetme clones are less than $300(dealer price) from a couple distrubutors.
