S&W "MODEL OF 1988"

I inherited a S&W 4" stainless revolver marked "45 CAL MODEL OF 1988". It shoots 45 ACP rounds. I've looked on GunBroker to find a similar model and get an estimated value. I've also looked at the S&W web page with no luck. Where can I get some information on this firearm?

Look inside when the cylinder is out, on that strap in front of where the cylinder pin sets, and get a model number. that is where S&W puts model numbers

The .45LC cylinder, if you could find one would not just drop in. The .45LC cylinder is longer than the .45acp cylinder. The barrel actually extends further into the frame on the .45acp. They are an excellent gun, but not easily convertable to .45LC.

The ".45 CAL MODEL OF 1988" is a model 625-2 in stainless steel. The 625 in the 45 was introduced in 1988 that is the reason for the name description that many times S&W used. The model was made for three years in a 3 & 4 inch variation and longer in the 5", I believe it is still available in later variants.

Converting this gun to a 45 LC would cost more in the long run, than to buy a gun in 45LC. There are later versions of this gun in both 45 ACP and 45 LC and are easier to convert, but the 625-2 is extremely difficult to convert.

Califonia Competition has a de-mooner tool that will unload your moon clips in about 2 seconds without damage to the brass. The moon clip is the fastest speed loaded available for a revolver. I think it is also avail thru Dillon's.

You gotta love the Smith N frame guns. Why else would I have so many.
