.357 Sig barrel for SigPro

Cheaperthandirt.com finally has .357 Sig SigPro conversion barrels back in stock. I have a SP2340 right now, but want to have something in .357 Sig and I don't plan (impulse buys aside) any more handguns anytime soon. My next purchases would probably be a P220 or a P226 in 9mm anyway, leaving my Sig Pro as the platform I would use to go two barrels on. With shipping, the barrel is $171, slightly cheaper than what I've seen on here when the barrels rarely show up. Should I go for it?

Why Not? I've had a sig pro since they first came out. I bought a second, (blueline special) and have not been disappointed. A friend of mine, (who also shoots a sigpro 2340) was at the range with me one day when he came out with a .357 sig barrel for his sigpro. He didn't like the recoil,(or the flames that shot out of the barrel)of the .357 sig cartridge. He asked me to try the barrel in my sig, to see what I thought of it. I reluctantly put the barrel in my gun, and used his ammo to crack off a few shots from 25 yards. I rested the weapon on a couple of sandbags, and fired the first shot. Hell, I couldn't see a mark on the target. Checked the spotting scope, and noticed a hole in the center of the X. "Lucky Shot", I said to myself. Fired the rest of the magazine, and when I went downrange to check the target, I found the ten round group was under 3". Needless to say, I bought the barrel and his remaining ammo. Great cartridge.

For a little extra cash you can buy a genuine factory 357SIG barrel right from SIG USA. 603-772-2302 for parts & service. I bought a third-party, stainless steel, South Korean-made 357 SIG barrel for a Glock 22C & was disappointed; a Bar Sto 357 SIG barrel I fitted to an HK USP is superb but cost as much as the factory 357SIG barrel I fitted to my 2340.

I thought about doing the same thing you are talking about doing. I decided not to because I think the 357 sig is a novelty round and the 40 cal is a good round. I was also a little worried about reloading a necked pistol cartridge. JMTCW

Mr. Lobo, you're certainly entitled to your opinions. Reloading the 357SIG demands particular attention to certain details specific to this necked (very SHORT necked) pistol cartridge. The "novelty" aspect though I'd disagree with in view of this round's adoption by many law enforcement agencies. For quite some time the 40S&W was considered to be a novelty as well. Times indeed do change & with them the adherents to popular lore can learn new ways.

Your next purchase should be a P228, they seem to be less available every gunshow I go to.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I must be the only one in this planet to have a baaaaaaaaaad luck with the 2340. When they first came out, my dealer over-ordered them and sold me the excess inventory @ $430. My fondness of these second generation sigs came to a complete halt about 25 rounds into the target. The slide catch assembly just disassembled itself rendering the pistol unoperable. Soon after getting the parts from SIG...the same thing occured again. Sadly, I was extremely disappointed with my first SIG. A few days after getting the firearm back from
Sig, I traded it for a Glock 19 which I now carry with me. Anybody wanna sell me one cheap? lol

From what the LEO friend of mine that sold me my P2340, he had put 2,500 rounds through it, evidently almost all Wolf ammo. When I took it out, went through the 50 rd box of Wolf he gave me with no problems. Had fun watching a whole movie while cleaning it, but the crap is cheap. Had no problems with the Sig, just put the bigger rubber grips on it because I have big skinny hands. Hope to take it out again tomorrow!
