New acquisition

I'd just like to say thanks to all the experts on this forum. I bought a Sig 229 this weekend and man what a gun. I think this one will soon replace my 226 as my favorite gun. Now how do you guys think I did? It was a police trade-in w/2 10-round mags, box and all accessories for a hair less than $600 out the door. This thing looks like it never came out the holster. If there was such a grade, I'd call it a 99.5%. Thanks again to all the members who were patient with my persistent questions.

Yup, I too am a fan of the 229, though I don't own one, yet. The US secret service, and the new sky marshalls carry it. The SS carry a 40 while the SM carry a .357sig. I too love the 226, but think the 229 has a more confortable feel.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

You did good. You have one of the best if not the best auto-loading defense hand guns out there and for less than $600.00 you got a descent price as well.If its a .40 get a .357SIG drop in barrel and you will be complete.

I'd try to get hold of some high-cap mags too, but you should at least buy three more 10rd factory mags. Carry three, and keep two for rotation or replacement.

When we get them used in the condition you described we sell them for 499.99 plus tax and fees. So it sounds just a touch on the high side to me. I have had several Sigs but the only one I always kept was my trusty ol 225. It just fits right!!

Police trade in guns usually go for less the $500. Most manufacturers refurbish them before distribution.

    Eric,

I plan to get a conversion barrel pretty soon from Sig. Most 229's around here are in the $600-650 range and they seem to be disappearing. A few months ago just about every dealer at the gun shows I'd attend had at least one 229 on his table. Besides the one I bought, this last show had one other, also used but in much rougher condition for $519 (though it did include one hi-cap). What's the round capacity on the hi-caps for this gun? Seems to me I remember seeing somewhere: 12 rds? Sig hi-caps are too expensive if I'm just getting 2 extra rounds, especially since it's not a carry gun. Brand new price at local gun shops is $749.

The price depends on your area. The dealer I go to had police trade-in factory refurbished for $500.00. However in your area what you paid may be a good price. Just think if you ordered one from my dealer paid $500 plus $20 shipping plus $30 to your dealer to get it, now you paid $550. About what you paid, and you got to play with it first to make sure you liked it.
