I have a small deranger type gun. It about 4-5in long. It is a revolver. Looks to be made out of brass. Cyl. Made out of steel. Has a screw in front to open. Has no barrel. It shoots through the front strap. It says "My Friend" on the left side above trigger. I can take a picture of this to e-mail someone if they have info. I would like to know some info about this pistol. The only spring it still has is the main spring(for the hammer). Thanks for all of your help.

My Friend
Made by James Reid, Catskill NY... made in a .22 .32 and .41
Was patented Dec 25, 1865.. One of the most distinctive appearing revolving cartridge handguns,... the frame also acts as a set of knuckles for hand fighting... More of this model were made than any other Reid firearm.. Brass frame type .. est quantity 9900.. many center pin variation.. values 475 to 950... depending on cond..
Hope this helps... its listed in Flaydermans on page 410..
One woman's opinion
Thanks
Black Roses right on .22 production about 10,000-- .32 cal. about 3,000--- .41 cal. about 300
Pin for cylinder should be a thumbscrew. This should have LEFT HAND threads. I believe there is only one spring in these. Does it have the sliding safty underneath in front of trigger? Does it have the patent date? Price would depend on plating, cal. and being complete. Hope this helps.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

From researching further, I find that IRVING is/was an Agent and Dealer for REID...and not a Manufacturer..altho some Pistols were marked IRVING.........................MY FRIEND came in two Calibers
.22 R.F., Knuckleduster, 7 shot.....In Good Condition.....$725.00
.32 R.F., Knuckleduster, 7 Shot.....In Good Condition.....$775.00
Was curious about the spelling of Knuckleduster, Thought maybe it was a misprint and it was supposed to be Knucklebuster...but after checking further ascertained that 'DUSTER' was correct......The REID Company also sold under its name three other Revolvers, Spur Trigger, Solid Frame, Single Action, Then were offered in .22 Short, 32 Short and 41 Short R.F.. The most valued of the REID Revolvers is the .41 Short at $2250.00, followed by the .32 Short at $1600.00 with the .22 at $1200.00...Interesting little gun....Best.....

Gunrunner, is this what yours looks like?
Jim
You got a good deal! I would guess estimate at 200.00 to 300.00 if the brass is not all dinged up.
