I am looking to buy a plain, vanilla 1911 Model 45 in the basic parkerized military finish. I see Kahr sells one for ca. $465; Charles Daly for $348; Llama for ca. $300. I see where one can buy the basic Springfield for $475. Realizing that you get what you pay for what are the best choices if I want a basic gun that is of good quality and will last?
Thanks,
dchristian

Yes , springfield is a good choice , stay far away from the Llama ,
they are not true 1911 style (parts & mags dont interchange), also
sarco inc. (shotgun news ad) has a really good deal on some 1911
style 45's , apx 325 (dealer) each ...real good basic gun !!!!!
Good Luck & smart choice on a shooter (1911 45)...................

I keep reading that the newer Auto-Ordnances (under Kahr ownership) are good guns. Springfields are excellent too.
However, I still prefer, and recommend, the "gen-yew-wine" Colt 1991A1.

I just bought my first 1911, a mil-spec springfield, Iv shot about 300 rds through it no malfunctions. Just when you get it home clean it real well before you shoot it the first time. Great gun.

If your willing to spend the extra cash - go with the springfield. I bought a basic colt series 80 for $550. But I ended up wanting a beavertail, better trigger, better hammer, n ight sights - hell, now iv'e spent 1200 on the gun when I could have bought the springfield "loaded" that has all that stuff for $750.

might i suggest looking at the Griffon 45, imported from s africa. i had one a while back, and it shot fantasticly. quality was great, comes with number of nice features-extended safety, slide stop, beveled mag well, full lenght guide rod, beavertail safety, nite sites, trigger was very good. only real mod i did was install a comp on it. shot as well as my kimbers and colts. held up very well, no failures...id still have it if i hadnt met a fool wanting to trade a python for a 45. id buy another of those griffons with no reservations. paid about 375 for mine.

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned the new Rock Island Armory M1911A1 retail at $315.00 See SGN for full page adds. Have had one on the bench and the fit and finish is far better than I would have thought. 98% parts compatiable. 2% is headspace concerns with parts swapping. If you want a 1911A1 to impress your neighbor, but the Kimber. If you want a shooter with fixed sights, look at the Rock Island Armory.

My opinion the Springfield 1911 loaded is hard to beat. But if you dont want to spend that much money Auto Ordnance, which was just purchased by Kahr makes a quality 1911.

    Best!!

I read an article in shotgun news where they compared the lama, springfield, colt, Rock Island and a couple of others. They said the rock island was a very good no frills reproduction of the mil spec 1911 and they are around $325.00 new. The springfield I believe rated most accurate out of the group. They were were all low end 1911's.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....
