I have my Father's 1952 Winchester 270. He made the stock and hand carved it. (It's beautiful). I was wondering if someone could tell me how to find out the approx. value or how I find a reputable gun dealer to appraise it. Thanks! (It's not for sale....just want to know how lucky I am!!!...LOL)

If I had a gun with a custom stock my dad made, I know it would be worth more to me than any gun shop could ever give me. Actual value questionable, depends on who want it and what they want it for. When you are talking custom stuff the prices can really vary. A good standard grade barreled action original I think would bring around 400-450 around here.

The lack of original stock may damage the collector value, unless he was a well known stockmaker. While it may be beautiful, the rifle is likely to carry shooter value rather than collector value. I think it might go just a bit higher than mentioned above, but not a lot. It is most valuable to you, treasure it.

Thanks for your help. As I stated, it's not for sale. We were just curious as to what the gun was worth. Some day I'll be handing it down to my grandson.

1952 was a good year for model 70's. Last year for the integral sight ramp and had the functionally improved (my opinion) contemporary safety (after 1948). .270 was second most common caliber (to 30-06). With all original sights and stock with steel butt plate they are about $800-1100 in .270 if they are 98% or better. Yours is worth more than that to you. Its a great nostalgia rifle in a good caliber.
