These boys pack any punch? Read somewhere that they don't but make up for it with many bullets.

What is .45 ACP? What does that mean? Is it the caliber? One more question(well... one more question for today). What does this Parabellum thing mean? Like 9mm Parabellum. Dude, like huh? Oh sorry... one more question[:D] Double action? Huh? Say what? Thanks much.

.45 ACP is the caliber and means the cartridge has the nominal diameter of .45 inches. ACP is an abreviation for Colt Auomatic Pistol and is also used to designate other cartridges such as .25 and .32. 9mm Parabellum is the standard NATO cartridge (as used in the Beretta Model 92)and measures 9X19mm (9mm in diameter and 19mm in length) and differs from a large number of other 9mm cartridges-- most of which are now obsolete. Double action (in simplified terms) means that the hammer on a pistol can be raised and cocked by the thumb and then released by the trigger OR can be raised, cocked (briefly) and released by a longer pull on the trigger witout the need to cock the hammer manaully with the thumb, just like in a double action revolver. Semiautomatic pistols can have this feature either exclusively or in combination with the single action feature. As for stopping power: No 9mm loading within reason will match the ballistics of the .45 ACP loading, but the 9mm's don't kick nearly as hard either!

Would you rather be run over by a pickup truck or a semi? They will both get the job done, but one will probably make a bigger mess than the other.

one thing to consider is you seem to be confusing the gun model for the caliber. The beretta is no different than any other 9 in terms of "stopping power". I carry one every day on duty, and would never buy one, but thats just my opinion. and you know what they say about opinions[:D]

Many police agecies now have gone to the 45ACP (45 caliber Automatic Colt Pistol) for a variety of reasons. Chief among these are knockdown power and lack of overpenetration. Knock down power refers to the amount of energy the slug imparts upon a target. Most 9mm parabelum rounds are about 125 grains whereas the 45 loading is ussually 230 grains. Physics will tell you that something hitting you weighing 230 grains will impart more energy on target than something weighing 125 grains. The 45ACP moves a fair bit slower than the 9mm but since the front surface of the 45ACP is so much larger, it has a tendency too impart more of its' energy into the target in a shorter distance during penetration. As for the term overpenetration, the 9mm, moving as it does so much faster than the 45 has a tendency to go into the target and right out the other side, retaining quite a bit of its' energy and speed. Since the 45 is so big at the front of the bullet, has to tear a larger wound channel and will tend to stop inside the target, thus imparting all the energy it carries into the target. I.E., the 9mm may go through the target and while it wont make the target feel real good, it may not stop said target. The 45 will impart ALL its' energy into the target and have a tendency to stop that target in its' tracks! Hope this helps and does not further confuse an already complicated area of ballistics.

the gun doesnt punch the target, the bullet does. all the gun does is launch the punch.

The Beretta 92 in 9mm definitely has more punch than say, a Glock or S&W in 9mm. Laws of physics.

I have had some out standing results with a 147 gr HP in a 9m/m but the old military pistols won't cycle them. I just recieved my 92FS so I will try again with this and report back.
