Love this auction site and purchased my first rifle as a result of using gunbroker.com. Though I was getting a great deal until I called around for transfer prices. The local shops around me want 50 bucks for the transfer and 30 for a dross fee. $80 bucks total! is there a cheaper way to transfer a gun? how can i find ffl that are affordable?I'm in Malibu and will drive 50 miles in any direction.

From your post I get the impression that you just started looking around locally, if so, look at the listing of FFL's here on GB's site and check w/ them.

From what I hear CA seems to be the perfect setup for outrageous transfer fees.

The blood suckers in Sacamento set the Dros fee price so there isn't much that you can do about that. I'd first try Jim Davis at the Calabassas shooting range. He does transfers at the local gun shows for a reasonable price. As long as he doesn't have to go out of pocket in ordering your rifle I don't see where he would be unreasonable. If worse comes to worse I know a gunsmith in San Gabrial who will recieve for $25 or $30 plus dros and such. Still Davis is much closer to you. The range is at the Kanan offramp of the Ventura freeway.

Thanks, I'll be talking to jim on Teusday. I'm happy to pay 25 bucks but fifty makes it hard to want to order out of state. Where on the site can I search for ffl's?

Sportsmen's Den in Oakhurst is $40
    Stone's in Merced is $55

I finally found a "garage" FFL that charges $20 ... and it's only fifteen minutes away.

My guy in San Leandro charges $65.00 including DROS, but does rifles only. Also, he will only receive from another FFL.

Best I can offer is get in with a local gun shop, and buy often! The guys at my shop most times will wave some prices! if you are a regular. My last buy out of Remingtons coustom shop cost me $25 bucks for paper work.

Wish you would come out here more often [:)]

here in louisiana the $10.00 charge is not bad at all and no dross go to gunbroker's start up page and follow the links to their list of ffl's

the thing that scares me is that we could be living in someone else's own reality

As a rule of thumb when you call around the Bay area the prices are OUTRAGEOUS to recieve a gun ie:Reeds. When I used to live in San Jose they were always overpriced about everything anyway. The FFL's in the rural areas are much more reasonable. I pay $40 WITH DROS in Jackson near Lake Tahoe.

I guess the reasoning is the cost of living for everything is more expensive. SOMEBODY has to pay for your FFL to live in Malibu!

    ....I never met a gun I didn't like!
