is it posible to sabet a 300 win mag to a .22 cal.? i'm sure one would have to reduce the load if its is posible, because it would be way to fast and probibly desinergreat upon inpact, a hypathedical question was asks to me and i came up with this posabillity but also said i would have to research it first. what better place to do just that than here!!!!!!!!!!thanks for the input in advance

    They used to make (maybe still do) a .22/30-06 load that wasn't very accurate. Simply put, the rate of twist in the barrel that is effective at stabilizing a heavy bullet just won't properly stabilize a light one.
    If (for sake of arguement) you had an auction barreled to fit, then I'd say you could neck a .300 mag down to an effective .22, but the throat erosion will be bad and would likely have a short life. Of course there aren't many .22 bullets that are meant to handle that kind of force, a .243/6mm bullet would stay together much better.

    I think you'd be much better served with a .220 swift, .17 Rem, or if you reload a wildcat custom in 6mm/264 mag.

    I'll have to disagree with your signature by the way... Speed isn't what kills, it's the accuracy.

    They have .50 cal rounds saboted to .22 cal. There is one in this auction. -Toe

    If you are looking for a .300 mag. squirrel popper, try loading 110grn .30 carbine bullets. Chronographed a little over 4,000fps, and went clean through steel sillouets at 200yrds. Rangemaster wasn't as pleased with the results as we were. Most expensive turkey i ever shot!

    STEELTOE, the military experimented with a .50BMG necked down to .22 that got over 7,000fps! Bad news is the barrel was only good for 2 shots.

    Yes actually. You can buy .30/.22 caliber sabots in bulk by the bag on this and other sites very cheaply. They come with load data for various .30 caliber applications ie:30/30,30-06, etc. I don't know if they include .300 magnum data but they probably do.

    So you see, you're not the dumbest person in the world. Somebody already beat you to that! You're the SECOND dumbest person in the world! LOL

    to be fair, the question was posted on the gun rights forum(if you have two guns to choose from...which ones)so to me i answered 3wm and 12 gauge with explanations as to way and all the variables these two guns have, thanks to all that answered, good info.

    stalion10, I used the speer 110grn FMJRN and the 110 PSP. This was in my friends Savage 110 with a Simmons 4x12 and some crap rings he had.Shot a box of both loads, 2 or 3 of the PSP keyholed, but he did hit the turkey in the head with the FMJRN. We were bored and it was something to do on a sat. He has a machine shop, so we cut out some more turkey and pig sillouet's and made the rangemaster happy. I think i found the load in Speer's manual, and i remember a few flattened primers. I'm putting together a .300WM and will try them out again when it's done.

    Not answering your question, but Remington made some for 30.06 and 30/30 call accelerators in which I believe were 55 gr.
    Haven't shot the 30.06 variety but have with the 30/30.
    It's flat out too 100 yards. shot down a 10 inch pine with them.[:D]
    Father-In-Law wasn't too happy[:(!]

    Remnut, that's a wildcat load based on the .264 Win mag cartridge necked down to accept a 6mm/243 bullet...

    Remnut, no prob - I don't always come across with the meanings I intend. [:I]

    I've heard the barrels in that configuration last up to 5,000 shots, it all depends on how hot it is loaded. I've really been thinking of selling my .300 win mag and getting a regular .264 mag...
