Questions about 1911 slides

I have 3 questions.

1. Can a series 80 slide be modified to work on a series 70 frame? I don't need the firing pin block feature, so I would assume that there would be some type of spring and plunger that can be removed. I don't have the slide, but was thinking about buying this one I found.

2. Can a commander slide fit on a full size Gov't frame?

3. I have a full size Gov't frame. I was thinking about getting a full size frame, cutting it down to commander length, adding a 2-port cone comp, to bring it back to full Gov't 5" length. I was considering chopping down an actual Colt slide... am I nuts? Reason: I didn't want any ugly roll-marks like whats found on these brazilian imports or even on new slides like from Rock Island Armory... very tacky. I guess this one, I'm looking for opinions.

By the way... if any you out there that has a slide/barrel set to sell, let me know.

Please email me directly at secure@charter.net. I travel frequently and don't get back here as often as I want to.

just my opinion...youre opening a can of worms. when youre done trying your experiment, you will have put so much time and money into it and it wont be any better than a standard gun if you had just bought it finished. if you want a series 70 or a commander, seriously consider just geting one. put part here cut this there...its gonna be a mess.

    1. Yes, easily.
    2. Yes
    3. The Government model frame and the Commander frame are identical, except for the length of the dust cover. It would be easier and cheaper to just buy a Commander slide.

no,they AINT, either. The Commander's shoulder which stops the rearward movement of the slide is set back about 1/8" deeper into the gun than is that of the Gov't Model.

Hello you can use the S 80 slide if you take out the spring and plunger frame will not work even if cutas different spec from slide stop pin hole to back of recoil spring guide hole.

I'm with Bobski. Your in for some work that probably wont net you your desired result. I fitted an argentine slide to a rock island frame, had to do so much work to the slide it had to be reblued. In this particuler case though, I made it a tad more accurate and tighter than the original, but it wasnt really worth all the effort.
