Whats the difference, or advantage/dis-advantages to a duplex reticle vs a fine crosshair? Getting my first scope for my first long gun, .22LR.

Take your rifle to a range ,sight it in at around 50yd, now shoot at something at 100yd in the dirt or where you can see bullet impact. You will notice that if you turn the power up or down at some point the duplex lower taper point will coincide with the bullet impact. Now just remember that power setting and use the lower taper point of the duplex for a shot at that range. After some experimenting you can try a different power at a different distance. Write this stuff down, or you will forget what power to set the scope on for the distance. Normally the lower power will give you a smaller image and thus more hold over. make sure you mount your scope with cross wires vertically straight down the bore butt plate line.
