The Glock Ka-Boom

I own a Glock 21, and I just heard about something called a Glock Ka-Boom, where the chamber and barrel split during firing. It sounds like it happens mostly with reloaded ammunition...I only use new ammo- do I have anything to worry about?

I currently own two Glock 21's (and 4 other models) I have fired several thousand rounds through each without any problem at all. This includes hundreds of reloads (my own, FMJ only).Like most weapons, Keep it clean, lubed and use good ammo and you should not have a problem....JMHO....

Don't use reloads (remanufactured) ammo, or +P+ or +P ammo and you should be safe.

I was worried about it too when I bought my Glock 22. After asking around and doing some research here is what I learned...1. It is VERY rare.2. In the rare instances it does occur, it has caused no more than a bad blister and bruise.3. It is NOT JUST Glocks. It has happened with other manufacturers. It is caused by using ammo that is too "hot" or poorly reloaded ammo. The combo of that and glock's partially unsupported chamber makes it more prone. To avoid it, always use jacketed bullets. The lead ones leave the barrel dirty which increases pressure. If you are STILL concerned, buy an aftermarket barrel.I still have my original barrel, thousands of rounds later, still no problems.

I had a LEO buy some American Eagle ammo to run through his Glock last fall. The chamber blew, sending parts out like shrapnel.Did enough damage for several stiches and severe bruises.Glock fell all over themselves trying to make him happy.

These are not rare events and Glock leads the way in them. People have been reloading for decades.....now this one (Glock) requires special attention or it will blow. Plastic gun maker will never admitt it, "liability"Keep on blaming the user, if you say it long enough....folks will buy it. LTS

Check out this link: http://greent.com/40Page/general/kb.htm and this: http://www.frontsight.com/safety.htm The best one is this: http://www.glockfaq.com/reloading.htm The bottom line seems to be that you should shoot only new, standard-pressure jacketed ammo through your Glock.

I have seen one K-Boom with a Glock 22. It was loaded with Federal Hydra-Shock ammo. Glock made it good.BTW: We had some 9mm case heads let go. The ammo was many times reloaded and apparently weak. No K-Boom. Just a lot of hot gas vented into the mag well and out around the shooter's hand. Not dangerous but disconcerting. The guns, Smith & Wessons all I believe, were not damaged.
