A guy at work wants to trade me an SKS - He say's it is the shorter paratrooper model. Were these military or just a short barreled version from china. I've got a Llama .380 he wants and wanted to know the price comparison. He said it has a 10 rnd and 30 rnd magazine, so it must have been converted for high cap. Good trade or Bad????

I can't really comment on if it's a good deal or bad cause I'm not familiar with the other gun. Just that there was no real 'paratrooper' model. In some sense, a marketing gimmic if you ask me. Mine came w/ the standard internal 10rd mag. I've seen some being offered with detachable AK mags. That might make it worth more but I don't know how one could verify that it hadn't changed from it's original form, thereby making it illegal by some obscure regulation. Anyway, I payed $170 for mine. Thought it was a steal since regular Norinco SKS's seem to be in the $195-$225 range at gunshows or my regular dealer. Seems like on GB somebody is usually asking $300 + for a paratrooper model.GL

i have seen folks refer to the shorter bbl version as the paratrooper
but i bought one that was called a paratrooper that accepts any ak stick-tpye mags and has a thumb-hole stock----it also has no provision for a bayonet. cant help with value
in my opinion tho the sks is a better value if it's in good condition..

It'd trade him if I were you and you really wanted the Paratrooper SKS more than the Llama, but make sure that he throws in some accessories like stripper clips and bandoleer or some ammo.

Thanks guys - He said he has some ammo and the 30rnd mag. He said it was in great shape when he bought it in 92 and he has just not used it. I'll look at it this weekend.

i hated my llama .380 was glad to see it go
it was the only SA pistol i ever owned that had an unprecictable trigger pull and might fire before i intended it to
i'm sure that condition could have been corrected by a competent gunsmith tho
i sold it cheap to a LEO and let him know of this condition
