removing lead buildup

I have a High Standard 22 with a muzzle brake. There is a significant build up of lead in the pocket below the bore. I've some questions: Does this build up indicate some kind of misalignment which would affect the accuracy? I have only fired about 100 rounds offhand and the results are poor, probably due to me. What kind of accuracy should I expect, say with a rest. Also would a bore cleaner as discussed back on 4/3/02 be useful in removing the lead? If so will the amonia harm the finish on the outside of the barrel? Thanks for any help.
