FAL replacement barrels better than stock barrel??

I just received my G1 refinished parts kit from DSA. Totally sweet, except for the barrel. Groves are pretty strong, but not shiny and somewhat pitted. I'm thinking about buying a 17" chrome-line, brand-new replacement barrel for $175. Will a shorter-length, new barrel be more accurate as the 21" stock barrel that's in much worse shape?? Should I leave it alone? Anyone had any experience with the brand-new 21" Argentinians that DSA is selling for under $100.

    I'd say put the baby together and shoot it first, then after you see how it shoots start tinkering with it. You may be happy with the way it shoots and not want to tinker with it. If I were you I'd probably do some heavy cleaning in the barrel using copper solvents and lead removers along with a real wire brush not nylon one and just scrub the heck out of it. You'd be supprised how much that can improve accuracy.

    Thanks for the advice. I did just what you said and I can see an immediate difference. The bore is shiny, the grooves more pronounced, the "pitting" was just gunk. It looks to me like a darn near excellent bore. I can hardly wait to shoot this thing. I also think I'll leave it exactly in its stock configuration. I really like the quick detach flashhider. Tapco has some compatible brakes that are legal to use which I'm planning to buy.
