colt model?

friend has an old N.J. State trooper 38 spl, 6"bbl. The serial # is 7xxx, and bbl has DA38. No other i.d noted. Anyone know this model and date based on serial#. ??? Thanks JOHN < jsbryant@erols.com >

    Saxonpit - yes gun is a Colt. Yes has logo, Yes, carried by earlier State Police in N.J. Not the gun model. Thought some model carried DA 38 on the barrel, but what model could it be?? Has olde type cylinder (1917) opener. #7xxx seems to be earlier gun??, but what model?? JOHN
