Kroil in new barrel?

Had someone suggest pouring the bore of a new barrel full of Kroil and leaving overnight! Sounds a little extreme to me! I still like my JB and Sweet's routine for breaking in barrels. Just wondering what you guys thought. We might not want to ask Ed Brown. He says we should follow his routine for 100 shots or hs warranty is voided!!

Kroil is widely use in the Oil refinerys here, most simply because it works so well for dissovling rust. No need to fill a bore with it unless it is full of rust. I use Kroil alot, and have so for about 10 years now, its great for a light coat while storing or in very wet weather. Some of the "bench shooters" were mixing Kroil with there Shooters Choice and using this for cleaning their bores. It is really a very good rust solvent.

It's called Panther piss at the refinery. We use it for penetrant on flange bolts or any other rusty crusty stuff. I put some in and old .22 barrel and was suprised at how clean it came out. I don't know about putting it in a new barrel, and you would not really want it on a good finished surface for long.

I just asked this question of the resident gun smith at the shop I frequent, and he pointed out as have others here that Kroil is an excellent penetrant, but it does not say anything on the can about being a lubricant. Check into a good synthetic lube like Tetra for lubricant purposes. Good luck with the new gun

I cant figure out why you were told that.I use Kroil a lot.It is great for cleaning a fowled barrel.I use every time I clean.I can see no purpose in soaking a new barrel over night. If you find a reason I would like to know.

You learn something new every day. I never heard of it. Now I know what it is and what it is used for so where can I get it, does it come in a can or a jar, how big and for how much? Guess I gotta move outta the countryside and back into civilization. Grumpy

I appreciate all the comments on this matter!! However I thought the guy was FOS to suggest this. Now I'm a little more convinced he was FOS! I use Kroil myself but would never have thought to pour a bore full and let soak overnite!! JB for the first 5 shots, Sweet's for the next 5 shots and Sweet's for the next 5 three shot groups!! That's GHD's method and it has worked too many times for me to change on a whim!! If you guys have more to add then please post as I'm always interested in learning!!! I only push JB through from breech to muzzle. That's the way the bullet is going!! Give me your thoughts on that. Thanks, GHD

Kroil - GREAT for getting stuck metal things unstuck and getting rid of nasty rust. I use it all the time at work on steam pipe flanges and valve bonnet studs. But, soaking a NEW barrel with it overnight? I don't see much sense in that.

Have any of you tried it in those nasty Mosin Nagant bores. I have scrubbed some for days and they are still dull. I don't expect a miracle cure but sure would like to find something that would ease the job. BTW, someone above asked where to get it. I also have never heard of it. Where do you get it? Thanks, Tom

Midway, Brownells, some auto parts stores, or direct from the company (I don't have a web sight but you could do a search)
