I HAVE A MINI 14 183XXX SERIES WITH THE WOOD HANDGUARD IN EXCELLENT COND.90-95%.IT HAS A SCOPE MOUNT AND TWO FEDERAL ORDENANCE 30 ROUND MAGS AND THE FACTORY 5 RD MAG.WHAT IS THIS GUN WORTH?DO THE WOOD HANDGUARD MODELS NORMALLY BRING MORE ? WAS THINKING ABOUT LISTING IT ON HERE WHAT WOULD YOU START IT AT ?THANKS DON

Dano is right on. Start it at $350 and see where it goes. Any more than that would probably get little or no action. I agree that the wood hand guards do not add much value to it. I took mine out and put the newer black Ruger ones so I could hold gun better without worrying about getting my fingers pinched. GD

The only Mini 14 that would fetch a high price in my opinion is the GB model or one that had been modified by some one like Chief AJ. My 2 cents

There are a few buyers who incorrectly believe that just because the rifle was made prior to 1994, it is a "pre-ban" and that they could legally put a folding stock and other assault weapon goodies on it. Their thinking is incorrect, it is a felony to modify a weapon in such a manner. However, many of these people are going to continue to believe this no matter what anyone explains to them. It is possible you could capitalize on this misperception a bit. I would do it carefully, for one thing, I wouldn't refer to it a a "pre-ban" rifle (because it isn't). But you could say something to the effect that it was made prior to the 1994 ban (which it was). In the title, you could attract people who would be interested by saying something like "Ruger Mini14 Pre-1994 183 Series...." or something along those lines. It will attract people who are interested in the firearm for that reason.

If someone asks you about whether or not a folding stock could be put on it, just tell them you aren't an attorney and are not familiar with firearms laws, and they should find out from someone who is. After all, it would be legal to put a folding stock on it if it were being legally reconfigured by a Class II manufacturer for "law enforcement only" use. The chances of that happening are remote, to say the least, but it would be legally feasible. Rather than get into such details, just tell them you don't know and to talk to someone who does.

BTW, I sold a similar Mini-14 (but it was probably in worse condition) at a gunshow last year for $450.00.
