Ok fella's here's the deal. My Squirrel gun was jamming alot so i broke down and cleaned it along with the mags. Well now it still jammss and it is really Pi$$$$$& me off, but what is wrong now is that while practicing the other day i would put a mag in, shoot the 1rst round and it would be 1 to 1 1/2 inches left and the other 9 (or however many i could get with the jamms) were where i put them. This happened with at least 2 of my mags (didnt have the other 2) these are 10 rnd OE rugers. I probably shot 150 rounds and it happened all that day. So I guess my Qustion is what the heck is wrong and what can I do to Fix this prob?

THANK YOU in advance and if i dont answer you promptly its cause I drive for a living and i am on the road, but i get to a puter every 2-3 days. Again thank you but hurry the season starts August 1st!!!!

I am useing federal 36gr copper-plated, hollow points, 22 lr

You cleaned everything, make sure your not using hollow points. At least my 10/22 hates them.

New gun??? No, honey, I've had it for years.

Make sure your not " soft loading" the first round. Snap the first round in and let the bolt slam shut. First round may be chambering differently than the rest. Without being there this would be my best guess. As for the jamming. ????? I shot bolt guns...

When you cleaned your factory clips, Did you take them apart? If this is the case then the spring might not be rewound all of the way. This item can be a tricky task, your ability too rewind these clips properly will affect the reliability of this particular firearm. Second--- After your cleaning,What did you lubricate your rifle with? The 10/22 has got too be the most finicky gun Ive ever owned. If you overlubed, and undercleaned it will gum this rifle up in a heartbeat. Third on the list is your Ammo. Your 22 is no different than your deer rifle! Feed it what it likes the best. Mine perfers Remington Yellowjacket 33grn Hp. For my rifle this round rarely jams, and holds the tightest groups. And last but not least. Consider your first shot, Your cold shot. The rest will vary due too barrel temperature. This is more the case in High powered rifles than in rimfires, but it may have something too do with it. Hope I could help.

lets all be responsible! shoot a criminal! Remember 0% of firearms pull there own trigger!

I had a jamming problem that was cured by retensioning the magazine spring to equal that of a new magazine. After that experience, I would not store Ruger 10-22 magazines loaded.

Years ago I had a 10/22 that jammed and I couldn't figure it out until I looked closely and found that the stock had dried out and shrunk which affected the fit of the mag and kept the shells from feeding.

Once I had problem too. I my case it was a spring in the magazine. With the time it has tendency to become weak.

i am familiar with this situation so i am going to reply for lone wolf? this 10/22 is less than a year old and has about 4000 rds. through it. the mags are newer than the gun. i dont believe you can take the factory mags apart at least we have found no way to do so. the mags have been cleaned with gunscrubber rinsed and oiled and this did not help the problem or make it any worse. the gun does not really "jam" tje bolt closes on the empty shell as it is being ejected. i have a clark custom and have the same problem but much , much less frequently. we thank you for your help and suggestions but so for no solution. thank carl and lone wolf.

This is a combination of several problems. "Yes" the magazine can be taken apart and it`s very easy.....putting it back together with the correct tension, is another thing. If you have never done it before, go ahead and buy some new mags., then practice on the old ones. Once you have it down, you can fix the old ones. If it is not ejecting the spent shell casing, you have several things going on.

Weak extractor spring, worn extactor. You can tweak factory extractors on the 10/22, but again....if you have not done it before, buy a aftermarket from one of the better names for custom 10/22`s. Sometimes even these need to be tuned, depending on the barrel and the relieved area for it, or in some cases....the ammo used. Best LTS

The first response was the best for your problem...no hollow points..use Winchester Super X ammo. Jim
