usp gunsmith needed

Hello all,

Here's the prob. My brother is a Marine in 29 Palms. He just picked up a USP 40 from the px for less than $400, the deal is, the mag is
unable to be fully inserted into the well. I have not seen it, but he tells me he can see something sticking out into the well. I went to the H&K web page to look for any listing of H&K certified gunsmiths with no luck. So, does such a list exist? If so, where, and if not then is my best bet just to call all the gun stores between 29 palms and Los Angeles?
Thanks for the help,
Walt

    MARINEBADGER,
Brother in 29 stumps? I give. One hell of a hole. I was under the impression that the px did not sell any arms. I may be corrected as I bought a car thru a px catalog in se asia. Shoot me a mail tru my address, Im, 120 miles from the base. I, possibly may set him straight. No charge. 101

Yeah, I don't know how others work, but I have been in that px and seen their albeit small selection of arms.

marinebadger, in all seriousness, has your brother tried pressing the mag release while inserting a mag? I've never had the problem with my USP 40 (purchased used) you described, but did note that my 45 ACP Expert (bought new) was much tighter at first.

Thanks for the heads up SPClark. Because of the level of idiocy in the state in which I chose to live, he has to wait 10 days to take posession of the usp. (even though he is a marine!?) I am origianally from OK, so all the extra gun legislation is...well absurd.
I will tell him about the mag catch possibility, but it sounded like something big and visible enough to be a flaw of some kind.
Could you see the catch on your Expert when it was too tight?
    Thanks
    Walt

    Badger,
Click on this link. Scroll down until you come to will270win, a member here. He is a Marine also stationed in 29 Palms. Click on his email icon and shoot him an email with the problem. If you need a gunsmith for your brother in 29 Palms, will270win would know if there is one in the area or not. Maybe he can take his gun over to will270win's house and let him look at it, hes no idiot either, between the two of them maybe they can figure this out if there is not a gunsmith in the area. Here is the link.

I have a USP Tactical that has an internal lock that secures the trigger and action ... maybe this model also secures the mag and is blocking it ... I know its not the normal thing for a guy to do, but has he read the instructions?

This is probably a dumb question, but is it possible that he has a USP compact and is trying to insert a mag for a full size USP. I wasn't sure from your description of the problem if the mag would only go in part way or if part of it was sticking out after it was inserted.

I found someone to look at it, but we have to wait till next week to
get our hands on the gun. If it is an internal lock like Kimberkid is suggesting, then the guy selling it should have been able to explain that. You say it secures the trigger and action, does that mean it would protrude into the magazine well?
And it is a full size usp w/a full size mag provided with the pistol.
I will be sure to let you all know what we find when we are able to properly investigate the matter.

My .45 USP also has an internal lock that prevents the frame from accepting a magazine. Sounds like you might just need to check the manufacture's website and check to see if they use this type of thing. I have an HK and since it won't feed a round manually from the top when the action is open, the internal lock that blocks the magazine and effectively renders the gun non-firing. Mine came with a small flat wrench-like key and when you twist the lock, a bar slips out of the way and magazine will seat properly.

    Good luck.
