Does the M1A only come in 7.62 Nato rounds...and from a previous posting I am to assume its the 7.62-54 round?

What kind of group would a springfield post ban M1A with match barrel new, be expected to get? Please don't say its' up to the shooter. I know that. Assuming I can get a 1/2 " group at 100 yds with other weapons with my own loads, how good is this M1A with carefully tailored hand loads and a good scope? What is your experience with this type M1A?Thanks

thanks for all your help and advice....i think i'm going with the m1a..but now a few more questions if you don't mind. how much should i expect to pay for a new standard m1a? a used? also will the shortened barrel on the bush model affect the accuracy? also...in the long run would the fiberglass or the maple stock hold up better..which is really more durable? thanks for helping you all are the best and fastest source of information that i can find.

i was going through the manual for my SA m1a and read where it says you can turn off the gas system to launch grenades with blanks. does this mean with live ammo it basically turns into a straight pull bolt action? would this damage the rifle? seems it would save some cleaning when just plinking.

SOCOM 16 unfired like new $1700.00 is this a fair price?

If you mean actual High Power contests, get an AR.
If you want an M14 clone for high Power, the SA National Match glassbedded will work.
The best two I have are on Polytech receivers with USGI parts and SAK Match parts.
I have about $1400 in each and they will outshoot any factory SA made.

The SA scopes are nice, but a little pricey. I have a 1st gen which has never failed me at the range or when hunting. You commit yourself to using match ammo when buying one, but I wouldn't shoot anything else anyway.

I have heard alot of bad stuff about SA scopes. Alot... I have two, got them before I heard all the bad stuff. And so far they've held up ok. I'm still waiting for one to break, I'm so peroniod about it that I'm afraid to shoot with them on. Cause all the bad stuff I heard about them, and all the money I spent on them.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I've had mine for years and shoot with it regularly. Never a problem and the accuracy is great. What bad things have you heard? I've never heard anything, so maybe I'm an accident waiting to happpen.

I have the standard model (bought it back in 1985) With the 3rd Gen.
SA scope. With 147 gr. FMJs it will print 1/2 in @100 yards.

Serria 168gr. Match kings is a great combo to if you spend the extra time on the brass (neck turning Flash hole etc>)

    Hope that helps-

I have discovered that depending on the model you buy , depends on the amount of twist in the barrel. The super match, or the National match are both great guns. The original m-14 is the best in my opinion. Any 3rd generation SA scope will do.
