What Is A Fair Price?

A firend of mine has a rifle he wants to sell and said "make me an offer". I don't want to say something that is lowball just fair, do want to buy before he puts it in the paper. The rifle is a Remington 760 Gamemaster "5 diamond" in 30-06 in good condition w/: metal in 90% and wood about 80% with surface scratches mostly on but stock, has rubber recoil pad and iron sights. Not shot much but mostly taken for walks as action still tight & very little wear. Any help is well appreciated as would like to get it at fair price that we would both be happy with.

Have him go out an get it appraised at a local gun shop, and get his best offer for it, then ask him what you can have it for.
In excellent condition, it should be worth around $300.00

Difference being only age and a little styling of the fore.
The new one he paid $400 for brand new several years ago. He
is a very practical man and this was probably his most expensive
firearms purchase. (I guess I am just illustrating how much he
loves those guns)
I would agree w/the others that $300 is a fair price to play with.
