What is a Spire point? My old 222cal Sako just doesn't digest V-max or Ballistic tip bullets very well. Soft points are ok but just don't do the job that great on them dogs! Need an opinion on Hornady 50 Gr.SXSP bullets.

Check out Berger bullets. Their maximum expansion bullet will be just the ticket.

So,please describe the bullet! What is a spire point? Soft point? Flat bottom or boat tail? What's it look like?

The spire point refers to the pointy bullets, like the spire on a church steeple.

The spire point bullet has a cone point not an ogive and it has a flat base. It has given me best accuracy in a Hornet. Because of the slow twist of your rifling the newer, longer, boattail bullets may not stabilize well. Give the 45 and 50 gr spire points a try.

I've been using the hornady 50 gr spire point ahead of 20 gr of 4198 for more than 20 years and found it to be a very good load for woodchucks in my Rem 700 heavy barrel. There is usually a picture of a spire point available here on the auction section of GB or on the largest auction site.
