will a 870 express Barrel fit on a Supermag???

I was down to the local gunshop today and a guy came in and wanted to know if he could put a 2and 3/4 express barrel on his supermag, which I believe is chambered for 3 or 3and 1/2! Why he wants to do this is beyond me, but I told him I knew of the place where I might find out.

    I know you can put a 2 3/4 incher on a 3 inch receiver. If he
    has access to a 2 3/4 inch barrel he can pull the barrel off the
    SM and compare them. If the ring is the same length from
    the receiver end of the barrel it should work.
