    need a cheap spot scope for checking turkey shoot targets at 95-100 feet. this is about all it will be used for.found a bushnell sporstman 20x50 compact for 59.00 shipped at planet optics.dont want to dump much $ into it as its only used at 100 foot max.any options?

    I'd appreciate recommendations for a decent spotting scope. I shoot at max range of 100 yds, all cals down to .22. I would like to be able to see holes in black. (It happens so rarely, I would enjoy seeing it!)

    Any reccomendations on a moderatly priced scope that I can use to see 30 cal. holes at 300 yds? Ive got a Al Freeland mount but a fairly cheap scope I'm ok at 200 yards but it's not good enough to make it to 300. Also, it's 20 to 60X.

    Ready to replace my Tasco scope. Any recommendations for a quality benchrest scope (around $500)? Any brand I should steer clear of?

    You need'nt spend a lot of money on a scope if it will be used for 100 yds or less. I have a Bushnell 18-36x50mm I paid $125.00 for and it works well. You can pay much more for better optics and power but I think it would be overdoing it for your purpose. My other scope was $389.00 and all though is better- I use the cheaper one more.

    Daddo is right for what I call perfect condition spotting. But, if you are going to do any lower light spotting, and ever spot small caliber at even 100 yards, much less farther out, you need a good spotting scope. My choice is Swarovski or Zeiss, but they are in the $1,000 range, and worth it. Leupold and Nikon are very good midrange scopes with a $300 to $700 range depending on what you want. Bushnell, Simmons, and Tasco are just what you pay for, lower quality that will save money and work under perfect conditions. The biggest difference you'll see in the various quality of scopes are light absorption (seeing with less light) and clairity (focus).

    When it comes to optics, you do get what you pay for. Most of us have bought the lesser quality scopes only to wind up spending the money for a better one in the end. Look seriously at the midrange scopes before you buy.

    The Sportsman guide usually has some good spotting scopes on sale at very reasonable prices.

    In the order I bought them I've owned Tasco, a scope of no name from Champions Choice, a Bushnell, Nikon, Kowa and a Leica. The Leica is last scope I hope I buy. Kowa scopes are worth looking at - mine fogged in wet/cold weather - but I've read that problem has been fixed in the newer ones. You can often find good deals on used scopes; I sold all but the Tasco (I tossed it in the garbage when it fell apart) pretty cheap. Poke around here and on Ebay for used ones, there are some good deals to be had.

    Check out the Burris Landmark.Midway has them for around $149.00 tripod extra.Every once in a while they include the tripod for the same price, otherwise it's about $35.00. I have one and like it very much.
