7.62x39...an all stainlss model...???

A friend of mine wants to trade to me a new, in the box unfired Ruger 77 all stainlss in 7.62x39. I have check this site for same caliber rifles and they are all Blue..what gives? Is he right about an all stainlss model? What good is this caliber? Is ammo plentiful?
What do you think?

    7.62x39 is the same round used in the SXS and AK 47 as well as the mini 30. It has the same balistics as the 30 30. Ammo is plentiful in both hunting as well as target. I am sure there is an all stainless model. I will not swear to it. My 2 cents

    What does he want to trade you out of? Yes, the Ruger 77 did come in SS. The caliber is good for shooting AT anything from rats to tanks. You can HUNT, in my opinion, game up to 150lbs max out to 150yds effectively. Ammo is cheap and recoil is low. I would say the gun is worth about $350 used plus or minus depending on condition and accessories.

    I should have put this in my first posting on this topic: he told me his 7.62x39 is the 1st special edition made for Davidson's(?), it is all stainlss, in the box and unfired. He wants to trade me outta my Win 300H&H Sporter which has the following: When I first got it the 300H&H it had a beautiful Walnut stock but I had heard Rem was experimenting with sythetic stocks so I contacted them. They had a few which were submitted for use and so Rem said for $50 they would exchange the stock. I said fine. When I got the rifle back on the receipt was written, McMillon/MACMILLAN or however you spell it. Later I had the rifle totally and completely Armoloyed by Armoloy in Texas. Only parts not done are front sight blade and firing pin spring. This sporter rife will clover leaf 3 shots from a rest out to 100 yards it is more than 15 years old and had less than 4 boxes of ammo fired thru it...and this is a great, light recoil shooter..but the ammo is getting harder and more expensive to find! So I am torn!

    a cash 'boot' is necessary...I might be torn but I am not goofy (don't say anything Duckhunter) enuff to consider this an even trade 7.62x39.

    The 77 SS NIB is worth about 450. I do remember seeing a New 77 Blue 7.62x39 for $469 in a gun shop recently. The your gun and the Ruger are two different guns for different purposes. But, if you are not or don't want to use your 300 anymore, the 7.62x39 might be of more use to you. Make sure the Ruger comes with the ruger rings. Your gun seems preety neat.

    Any "thing" is worth what someone will pay for it. I'll pay $350 plus shipping to my FFL for your friend's 77.

    You've just established "a dollar value" for it.

    As an OLD geeser, I no longer have any belted magnums in my safe.
    Dies are all gone, but I do have a 300 H&H Lee Loader set still
    on my shelf. If you want to take up hand loading, I will be
    more than happy to give it to you. Yes -- it is slow compared
    to my Bonanza Co-Ax, but it will produce fine ammo. You can
    always move up to an inexpensive "O" press, that can be found on
    this auction site or eBay.

    2. As an OLD geeser, I no longer hunt anything larger than northern
    Florida white-tailed deer, or costal marsh hogs. The 7.62X39 is
    more than up to that job, and won't rip your shoulder off.
    As much as I am not a Ruger fan, I will beat Competentone's offer
    by $25 to my receiving FFL.

    After consulting my Ruger Catalog M77s that are stainless steel range from $650-765 although the M77 is NOT chambered in 7.62x39 Russian. Your friend may have the calibers mixed up with the 6.5x55 Swedish or the 7x57 models. The 7.62x39 is also somewhat low powered for anything larger than deer, the round was created by the Russians to do nothing more than effectivly kill humans. Personaly I'd go with a 7mm or 30-06 because it's more all purporse. Seeing as my catalog is 1 year old you might consult ruger-firearms.com and see what is offered. Your friend also might have changed the barrels, although I don't see why the factory barrels are of superior craftsmanship. On a more personal note I am not a big fan of M77s I'd try a Remmington 700, but people like different things. I've never owned either but I hear good about both. Don't worry the ammo is very plentiful and very cheap. Don't worry about power that small round is quite potent. Overall good round. Also if your looking for a deer gun try a Nagant, mine work wonderfully.

    As noted earlier in the thread, the 7.62 x 39 was a limited edition Ruger made a few years back.

    The $650-$765 is Ruger's Suggested Retail-- I've never paid any where close to Suggested Retail on anything--especially firearms.

    (It is probably worth more than the $350 I offered--or the $375 by AQH--you don't see them too often.)

    Im with Competentone MSRP is always way high so when you actually buy the gun you think your getting a good deaal.I own a Model 77 or two and ther as good as any Rifle I own.But for the price for just the Rifle he has made a good offer $350.00 to $400.00 Range.
