CZ 99 - Zastava Z9 - Need info before i sell it.

I need accurate info on how many were imported. A complete breakdown would be appreciated. I have a friend who worked for Nationwide Sports Center until they folded. I have some info from him, but nothing definitive. I have a Polished blue with walnut grips in distributer fresh condition with both mags that I would like to sell. What is it worth? My son sold his parkerized/plastic grips for $1200 in 1999. That was fired and missing the outer box sleeve, and he sat on the box. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The CZ-99 was not made by CZ. It was not even made in Czech Replublic. They were made in Yugoslavia. Why they used the "CZ" other than to ride on their shirt tail, I don't know, but they had nothing to do with CZ, CZ USA or any of the previous CZ importers. This gun is now being made in South Africa. When Yugoslavia began to break up into Serbia, Bosnia, Etc. in the early 1990's, they packed up the factory and moved it to South Africa. That is were they are still made and exported to the US under the TZ-99 designation. The gun is the same with only a few minor changes. They no longer come standard with night sights. They only offer it with plastic grips. The mag release is slightly extended, and the option of blued or parkerized finish is replaced with just a high-tech dark gray finish.

The original CZ-99 was offered in 9mm and 40 S&W. The South African gun is only offered in 9mm. The production line for the 40S&W was not shipped to South Africa, but rather Israel. There it has been produced under the Golan name. Again same features, just 40S&W caliber.

The South African TZ-99 is very reasonably priced at under $350, but the Golan is over $450. The Golan is not currently available to the best of my knowledge. The TZ-99 is very readily available.

The older CZ-99 may have some higher value than its current re-incarnation, but I doubt anyone would be willing to pay the $1200 that you say one sold for years ago. In today's market most people don't even know what this gun is, or was rather. Hence the reference by some of the others directing you to CZ USA. (NO insult intended guys) My point is that this is a somewhat obscure gun, most people never heard of it. Nationwide Sports was their primary importer. Don't get me wrong, they are a very well made gun, but then again so is the current version of it. The biggest problem with the wood grip is that it doesn't fit medium or smaller sized hands. The CZ-99 as well as the TZ-99 are intended for a larger hand. They are the most left handed friendly pistol on the market, that is as long as it is a big left hand.

Your son may have gotten $1200 in 1999, but if anyone would pay that today they are either very serious about collecting or they are a fool. I know someone that would be laughing all the way to the bank if you offered him half of that for his unfired one. I didn't keep one back in the time period that these were available, but I have friends who did. I did go ahead and get one of the new ones from South Africa and if anything it is smoother and more refined. I hope this helps.

As usual, wonderful info from IRARMSX. If memory serves me right the CZ-99 was made by Zastava w/ NIB value being 450 per Blue Book.

Hello $. I have the exact same variation of the Crvena Zastava CZ-99 as you do (high polished commercial blue with walnut grips) which was imported by TD Arms, New Baltimore MD. I also had two of the military black finished examples with plastic grips (which I purchased from Nation Wide) but the two I sold (combined) did not even come close to the $1200 your son says he received for his! I've vistied the Zastava factory a couple of times during my travels and it is the same plant where the Yugo automobiles are produced and it is a very modern facility and they were kind enough to provide me with the missing grenade launcher for my Zastava produced AKM rifle (I passed on purchasing a new Yugo however). I have information that the ban on firearms importation from Serbia and Montenegro has now been lifted (or will be shortly) so these pistols may well return to the market place...you may want to SELL NOW!

Hey Mark, the military examples that you had, were they CZ 999 ? If so, are they still available for purchase and where ? Thanks for any info you can give me.
