Help with M-1 Carbine Handguard

I have a Rock-ola M1 carbine, and the wooden handguard will not stay on. I can tighten it down, but after a few rounds, the part that holds on the handguard will move forward causing the handguard to fall off. It looks as if the piece of metal that keeps the the part that retains handguard is worn. Sorry for the description, I am no expert, but am curious as to what needs to be done to keep the handguard from coming off. Thanks.

If the band is not being retained in the proper position, the band keeper protruding from the stock is not doing it's job. Slightly bend the keeper out to engage the band.

The handguard is tightened by slightly bending the metal on the aft end upward. This was an arsenal fix, so it is correct.

This is an easy fix for someone familiar with the carbine. You must ensure the band is positioned correctly and tightened correctly.

The barrel band spring is the part that prevents the barrel band from moving forward. It can be removed for straightening or replacement by turning the stock over & driving the short part laterally out of the stock with a small pin punch.

Thanks alot for the help. Hopefully as soon as I get home this weekend from college I can try to fix the problem with the handguard.
