I like the Tanfoglio Witness alot. It is not a 1911 type hand gun. It is double action and has lock and cock ability. It breaks down much different than a 1911. The CZ/Tanfoglio have alot going for them. 10rd mag and compact vs full size. Wonder finish much like the brush ss or blued or polymer for a lower. All that being said I like the Tanfoglio and I like the 10mm. Do your home work and you will be all right. My 2 cents [8D]

Daly and Rock Island Armory both have 1911 clone pistols for under $400 and their parts are virtually straight 1911.

Springfield Armory also is something you might want to consider. They mfg. a Mil. Spec. 1911 and they typically sell, new, for $450-475 in my neck of the woods.

All 3 are good value pistols that perform well. Daly and Rock Island are made in the Philippines using state of the art CNC machines and KBI is the US dist.

Personally I think either of the imports typically have a better fit than SA or for that matter Colt, but that's just my opinion.

I have a cz97 also. this is a seriously great gun for not a lot of bucks. my ONLY complaint is the lack of accessories (grips, holsters) but i think that is due to lack of popularity. worth taking a look.

Charles Daily not a good idea. My shooting instructor was a fan and bought 3 or 4 guns from them. He liked the features and appearance for such a low price, until he started shooting them. They all kept getting sent back multiple times for repair. I helped him film a video of them jamming 1-3 times per 10 round magazine of various kinds of store bought ammo and reloads. He finally got so sick of sending them back with no improvement that he sent a letter to the president of the company, along with the video of them jamming and an explanation of how many times he sent them back. He demanded a refund and they gave it to him. He went from being a serious fan, always showing them off and proudly talking about them to vowing that he would never own another one.

Different people have different experiences. I've owned a couple Daly's and no problems at all. I've shot IDPA with a number of fellas that had Daly's and there were no more problems than with the high end pistols and all of those were basically problems related to reloading workmanship.

But, with that said, if I had observed the problems with Daly's that you have I would not be very positive about them either. However, it does say something for the company refunding your friends money. I know a fella that has sent his Dan Wesson Patriot back 4 times and it is still "*" and they will not replace the pistol or make a refund.

So now we have both good and bad observations and reality is most likely nearer the middle[:D]

all 1911's if you shoot them alot have to have some tweaking every now and then.I bought a Dan Wesson here on GB and liked it so well I bought another,I bought a Charles Daly complete lower on the other auction site and a complete upper on fleabay and after a little fitting never had a glitch out of it.I have a Para LDA I had to send back 3 times and its still was not right, finally fixed it myself.I have a rock island thats ok for a mil-spec and an Armscore thats ok as long as you dont even think about hollow points.I have a couple more I built from parts on Essex frames, almost all these except the LDA will interchange all with other 1911 parts and all work great as long as you keep them clean
