lengthening chamber in Win 101

I obtained a second barrel for my old Winchester 101 that has been fitted perfectly to my receiver (many thanks to gunbroker's want ads section as that is where I located the barrel), and the gunsmith is going to open the forcing cones up to modern crimp and wads.

My question is whether the barrel (30 inch full/mod) chambers can be lengthened to 3" and 3" lead shot shells be safely shot through it? I would not be using steel shot (especially with a true full choke) but I am thinking of late season pheasant hunting in south dakota.

Any experience or thoughts?

Make sure the ejection port is big enough.

The only thing you get with a 3" is a heavier payload. Personaly I'd stick with the 2 3/4's and maybe use some #5 shot 1 1/2oz "Baby Mags"

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.
