However, the Petersen article is a good one. Finally after almost 40 years the powers to be are admitting that the 223 may be a little light in the "put down - stay down" department and they are casting about for a fix that can use the existing "16 platform".
This is not a fix that I like as it is appears to be a "least cost" approach and cost savings is what brought about the 16 to begin with. Good old automotive executive McNamara had a "brain fart" to cut costs, so we had our 14's taken out of our hands and were given the new wonder gun, then many of us promptly proceed to get dead or the crap shot out of us when it didn't work.
Although improvements have been made, function problems continue today especially in harsh environments like the mid-East. So I don't care what the flippin cal. is if the darn thing won't go bang the "grunt" or "gruntette" are going to continue to find their self in very deep "doo".
The 6.8 may improve the "knock down - stay down" but the platform is still flawed and in need of once and for all fixing or replacing it. Either of which would happen a lot faster if the Pols. and Planners had to be out there depending on one.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
Go to your favorite search engine and type in '6.8 SPC' and a myriad of links will appear. Google, notoriously anti-gun, has 10 pages of links. There is a lot of discussion on the shooting forums along with the 6.5 Grendel.
Best.
