bad powder????

So how does one tell if its bad?? I got some IMR 4064 that is dusty. Kind of a rusty dust. Is this a big deal. Smells ok but just wondering. Will it give irregular pressures or wont burn at all or what. Maybe its just fine. Thanx guys you always know the answers.

I wouldn't take a chance on it myself. Losing a little powder is better than blowing up a gun and yourself any day. When in doubt throw it out. Works for reloading as well as the refrigerator.

Is the inside of the can rusty? Does the powder still smell like acetone or is there an acid odor. I had a big steel can of red dot that got some rust showing on the inside of the can the dust got on the powder too. it it shot fine.

If it only one pound err on the side of caution and dump it.

Get rid of it.........I had some old 4831 that turned rusty and dusty........loaded a few shells and blew primers......way to hot......someone told me it was the nitroglycerin separating from the grains of powder......anyway, it was not good..........

Toss it on your lawn, it's a good for the lawn, but not for you.
Lifes to short to mess with it in that condition.........

rusty color is a sure sign of deterioration,.....toss it on the lawn or flower bed/garden.
