Nothing positive in my references. Late 20's, into the 60's, with no specific serial numbers given, other then 100,000+ were made for the military during the Second World War.

Its a pre-WW II MK IV.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a list of production dates or know where I can view one on the web?

I am not aware of any list on the web, but prior to WW II the serial #s had no pre-fix. Those made during the war had no pre-fix, but can be identified by a "War Finish" stamp. There were some unfinished MK IVs left over after the war. These all have the normally Webley smooth high polish finish and sport serial numbers in the high 100,000s. When when new production resumed in 1947, Webley started using an "A" pre-fix. In 1957 they switched to a "B" pre-fix. The highest known serial # is B88165. The last hundred made were imported into the US by Navy Arms and were sold in a wooden case and stamped with the inscription "The 100TH Year of the Webley Revolver 1883-1983".

Thanks, for the information sounds like you know your webley's. Mine does have a "war finish" stamp but it is on the right side of the frame in front of the serial number. All the ones I have seen in books and on-line have the "war finish" stamp on the left side back towards the grip. It has the tool marks and is not polished.
