Is there any way to tell just from this picture?

If it's a 22, it's a model 17. If it's a 38, it's a model 14.What does it say on the end of the box [?]

Not sure, I haven't got to inspect it yet, coming up at an auction next Saturday.

Do you see that little pin under the rear sight? It's a 22. If it has a rimfire/centerfire selector switch on the hammer, it's a model 53. Best, Joe

EDIT: RCrosby..you are absulutely correct. I went and unboxed my 53-2, and lo-and-behold, there's an ejector shroud. I will evermore hold you in the highest esteem when it comes to knowledge about firearms, wimmin folk, and good whiskey. Best, Joe

Pretty sure the 53's have the shrouded ejector rod housing. Most likely the 17 or 14, depending on how big the barrel hole is.

Thanks so much for all of the replies. After alot of leg work, the gun in fact has turned out to be a model 17 , 22 cal. Has all the original paperwork, and cleaning tools. I'm thinking maybe $500 or so on this one. They are also going to have a model 33, also with box, papers and tools.
