what is the diffrence between a 1903 and a 1903a3, other than the sights? are the parts interchangable?

To some extent, wit fitting required on some things, primarily the bolt. A3 barrel bands and trigger guard are stamped but can be replaced with milled '03 parts. I have an '03 with a stamped A3 magazine follower that works fine.

If I had my choice of the two laying side by side just as they came from the factory, I'd take the 03 hands down. 4 groove bbl. steel trigger guard, a better looking stock, and no stamped parts. One(03)looks like a rifle, the other (A3) looks like a club.

Bull![:D] The Remington 1903A3 is a fantastic rifle! In my opinion, it's a better rifle than the '03.

If you swap out the cheesy stamped parts primarily the trigger guard and follower the A3's appearance improves immensely.

They both have peep sights. My Rem. '03 peep pictured below is located on the "flip-up" forward of the receiver...and as you can see, further away from the shooters eye. A lot of shooters prefer a peep-sighted system to have the rear sight much closer to the eye for quicker target aquisition like on the '03-A3.

...then again, a lot of shooters prefer the aesthetic lines of the '03. You won't get a satisfactory answer here. Everybody's rifle is the prettiest, most accurate, and most reliable. Proud parents, all.

And yes, the parts are interchangeable (minor fitting may be required). Joe
