I am looking for a good 1911 compact carry pistol (not looking for sub compact). I am interested in the Kimber models. However, there are so many different models or "families" of pistols they list on the site, I dont even know where to start. What a good Kimber compact pistol and what are the differences between the various series?

I have recently acquired a Kimber Pro Custom Carry II pistol and I am not impressed. I expected for the money that the pistol would be ready to fire properly out of the box. Unfortunately, that wasnt the case at all. The gun's extractor was out of wack and it had ejection problems. I had to adjust that, and still dont have it totally right, but it drastically reduced the problem. It will still, if only maybe once in a while, lock the slide back with ammo still in the mag. I have no idea why it does that. Is this common with these pistols? I have been shooting decent quality target loads, not reloads. Now I know people who have bought Kimber pistols and had good experiences. BUt I have also heard some bad things. What I dont understand is, why pay a thousand dollars on something you have to tweak, when I can buy a Glock for half the price and get the up most reliabilty

I carry a Pro CDP. This is a commander length barrel (4") and has a full length government grip handle. It has melted edges meaning that all the sharp edges are rounded to make it easier to draw (less snagging) and carry. This is also an aluminum framed gun. Steel frames are nicer to shoot but the aluminum is easier to carry. There are smaller guns in the CDP line but I prefer the full size grip length. I would suggest requesting a catalog from Kimber or picking one up at a local dealer as there are many options.

I have the Kimber Pro that I bought when they first came out. I carry it often. You can't beat the Kimbers for the price and quality. That's why I own three of them.

IMO save some money and get a Springfield loaded model instead. Not happy with my Kimber, love my Springfields.

..Save some money and get a pistol that will appreciate in value, like a Colt Commander or Defender. A Kimber is a nice looking gun and a reliable gun, but it wont appreciate anywhere close to that of a Colt, if at all...and costs as much or more NIB than above mentioned Colts...[;)]
