Hi guys, I would like to know what the numbers on a receiver can tell me, if anything op top the serial number on the side,

9 is on the frond left "leg"
B1 O K X
D28291 32 is on the aft left "leg"

In photographs why do people hide the/or part of the serial number?

Can you blue a gas cylinder ( I read it is SS)

TIA Pim

There is only 1 SN on a Garand (on the rear of the receiver), all the "D" numbers are parts drawing numbers, and include the revision # (if any). The rest would indicate heat treat batch etc.

A long time ago when we still had steam powered cars, the habit of blocking part of the SN to prevent someone from claiming that your firearm was stolen from them. Has it ever happened? Hard to say. Is it required? No.
Does it matter? Only if your dealing with a rare/expensive piece that you need the exact SN inorder to verify it's factory condition prior to purchase
