Winchester 101 help

I have a 98% condition Winchester 101 pigeon grade 12 ga. that I purchased several months ago. The receiver, in several parts, is turning a dull silver and I would like to shine it up to original condition. The problem is I don't know what the finish is and what to use to clean it to original condition. Any ideas?

I thunked the pidgeons had a dull greyish finish on the receiver. Maybe I'm thinking of a different gun.

I pulled my Winchester 101 Pigeon grade from the safe and the finish looks to be an almost stainless finish when looked at straight on.

I have a pigeon grade 20 gauge that I have hunted with many years. The darkening you speak of is occurring on my gun where I grip it to carry it most often. I was thinking it was nickel. I have not tried to polish it up.
