How often do you break down the bolt on your actions for cleaning? Now for the stupid part - how do you break down a mauser bolt? I have just recently gotten in to bolts and don't really know a dang thing other than how to opperate. Now I have 3 and should know a little about cleaning before I go further. Thanks!

bolts should be cleaned like the rest of the rifle, aleast onece a year if used for hunting. If you have an unalterd m-98 mauser, just put the safty in the middle position (straight up) and push in the bolt lock (small pin on the bolt shroud) and unscrew the firing pin assy. If you have a scope safty it get more complicated.

If you use corrosive ammo the bolt face and firing pin should be cleaned every time you shoot.

I clean every gun after every time I shoot it. I know you don't have to theoretically, but I just can't stand a dirty gun.

It does not harm to clean gun every time after shooting it, plus enjoy doing it.

Check out www.milsurpshooter.net there's a Mauser forum with a link at the top of the page for bolt disassembly instructions.
